Dimensions of Mosques’ Role-Playing in the Islam-Based Governance Model (Case Study: Ayatollah Mahdavi Kani’s thought and Practice in Jalili Mosque)

Abstract

Various political systems have designed and employed different governance models according to the ideological supports and centered on their ideal institutions. Relying on the approach that mosques are among the key institutions of governance in the Islamic political system, to understand the dimensions of mosques’ role-playing in the Islamic governance model, while investigating Ayatollah Mahdavi Kani’s political thought and practice to organize the socio-political activities of Jalili Mosque as one of the most active mosques in the midst of the Islamic Revolution, the present paper is aimed at answering the question, “What are the dimensions of the mosques’ role-playing in the Islamic governance model?” In this regard, after employing a set of documentary methods in the initial data collection phase, it has been tried to design the dimensions of the model in question by the qualitative thematic analysis method. The analyses output is the explanation of the dimensions of mosques’ role-playing in the mosque-centered governance model under social, economic, political, cultural, and security dimensions. This research has examined each of these dimensions in detail and finally presented them in the form of a schematic model.
